Conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, are treated with Ranitidine, as are ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where acid from the stomach flows backward and causes heartburn and esophageal injury. Ranitidine, available without a prescription, is effective against acid indigestion and its symptoms, including heartburn. Ranitidine is an H2 blocker. The production of stomach acid is thereby reduced.
How should Ranitidine be used?
You can take Ranitidine in several oral forms, including effervescent tablets, effervescent granules, and syrup. It is usually taken once a day at bedtime or two to four times a day. Ranitidine is available in an over-the-counter tablet form. As a rule, you should take it once or twice daily. It is recommended to take 30-60 minutes before eating or drinking anything that might trigger heartburn. If there is anything on the label or prescription you need help understanding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for clarification. Take Ranitidine precisely as directed. Only adjust the dosage or increase or decrease the frequency of your doses after consulting your doctor.
Effervescent ranitidine tablets and granules should be dissolved in a full glass of water (6 to 8 ounces [180 to 240 milliliters]).
Do not take over-the-counter Ranitidine for two weeks unless your doctor tells you to. If heartburn, acid indigestion, or sour stomach symptoms last longer than two weeks, stop taking Ranitidine and call your doctor.
Additional applications of Ranitidine from India
In addition to its use in treating stomach and esophageal bleeding, Ranitidine is sometimes prescribed to prevent stress ulcers, stomach damage from using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and aspiration of stomach acid during general anesthesia.
